Iris Valve Liner

A useful addition for an Iris Valve

Iris Valve Liner

Overview

A useful option to use in conjunction with a Mucon Iris Valve is a LINER. A Liner is simply a tube of flexible material, which passes through the valve, which is constricted (or throttled) by a closing diaphragm.

Why use a Liner?

  • To assist diaphragm opening
  • To combat diaphragm wear
  • To isolate the valve and sleeve from the product
  • To provide a means of sealing against a fine product where a high head-load is involved when a rubber liner is used in conjunction with a fabric sleeve.

DIAPHRAGM / LINER COMBINATIONS

For the majority of applications a rubber liner (abrasion resistant or Food Quality) is used in conjunction with a fabric diaphragm. The fabric diaphragm giving the best "strangling" characteristics. - Fabric Diaphragms / Fabric liners are O.K. - Fabric Diaphragms/ Coated Fabric and Rubber liners are O.K. - Coated Fabric or Rubber Diaphragms/ Coated Fabric or Rubber liners can be problematic and should be avoided. Liners can be fitted to series AS,AD,BS,BD,C,ED,and H valves and are fabricated from the following sheet materials:

  • Nylon 2oz,4oz and 7oz
  • Terylene 4oz and 7oz
  • Anti Static Nylon and Black Anti Static Rubber
  • Polyurethane coated 2oz & 4oz Nylon
  • Neoprene coated Mockleno, Hypalon Coated Nylon and Viton Coated Terylene
  • White FDA approved Natural Rubber and T893 Red Abrasion resistant Rubber
  • Teflon

Variations of construction of some liners is available for applications that may involve liquids.

Please refer to Process Components for advice.

Options

  • Single flanged liner - fits between valve and mounting flange.
  • Double flanged liner - usually clamped either side of the valve or between spacer pieces to make a "pinch valve" arrangement. Isolates valve from product.
  • Ringed liner - to clamp into the upper half of an AD or ED Valve with just a single diaphragm in lower.

LINER "HEM" OPTIONS

Liners can be fitted with flanges at both ends. i.e. Double Flanged liners. Free hanging liners can be furnished with a variety of "hems".

  • Plain hem - fine for most products.
  • Weighted hem - Stainless Steel ring sewn into hem, also useful to locate liner into neck of a container etc.

Benefits

  • Assists diaphragm opening especially for very low density products
  • Reduces diaphragm wear
  • Isolates the valve and sleeve from the product
  • Provides a means of sealing against a fine product where a high head-load is involved when a rubber liner is used in conjunction with a fabric sleeve.
